Wisconsin Wins $32M to Cut Transportation Emissions
MADISON, Wis. (WLIP) — Gov. Tony Evers announced Wednesday that Wisconsin will receive $32 million in federal grants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in transportation infrastructure.
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Low-Carbon Transportation Materials Grants Program will allow the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to study and implement low-carbon construction materials in highway projects.
WisDOT will create a pilot program to measure and minimize carbon footprints in transportation construction, aligning with the state’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
The funding, part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s Inflation Reduction Act, will help WisDOT set sustainability benchmarks for state construction contracts and explore strategies to reduce environmental impact.
