Madison, WI (WLIP)–The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) announced record-breaking job and employment numbers for August 2024, marking the fourth consecutive month of new employment highs in the state.

Preliminary estimates from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show Wisconsin’s unemployment rate held steady at 2.9%, significantly lower than the national average of 4.2%, with 3,051,900 people employed—a new state record.

Wisconsin’s labor force participation rate remained at 65.5%, compared to the national rate of 62.7%, and the state saw an increase of 11,600 nonfarm jobs in August, bringing the total to an all-time high of 3,047,300 jobs.

The data highlights the state’s strong economic growth, with both employment and job creation reaching unprecedented levels throughout 2024.
