Kenosha, WI (WLIP)–Kenosha County Executive Samantha Kerkman declined to take action on a resolution supporting the Kenosha-Racine-Milwaukee (KRM) Regional Rail Line.

County Executive Kerkman cited the county’s lack of invitation so far to participate in discussions about the project.

She also noted the rejection of a countywide referendum by the County Board that would assess public support and financial implications.

Kerkman told the WLIP Morning Show that the proposal for the KRM also faces a major hurdle when it comes to how it will be funded.

“The hard part for me is I still don’t have the questions answered on the funding. I know that’s what part of the study is all about. In the previous discussion on the KRM, we knew roughly the cost and so the study is studying the same line, we just don’t know where the funding is going to come from,” Kerkman said.

Kerkman stated she cannot approve or veto the resolution at this time, and said that continued attempts to engage in dialogue with Racine Mayor Cory Mason have been fruitless.

Kerkman says that she’s left with no guarantee that Kenosha County would truly have a “seat at the table” in the KRM study process.
